Education

He finished high school in 1976 and served his time as a soldier. He graduated from the Institute of Physical Culture “Georgi Dimitrov” (now NSA “Vassil Levski”).

Academic career

Since 1983, he has been a lecturer at the Department of “Water Sports” at NSA “V. Levski”. In 2000, he defended his dissertation for acquiring the educational and scientific degree Ph.D. After winning a contest, he acquired the academic position of  “associate professor” (2005) and, in 2017 – the academic position of “professor.” In the period 2008-2012, he was the Dean of the Faculty “Kinesitherapy, Tourism, and Sports Animation” (now Faculty “Public Health, Healthcare, and Tourism”) at NSA. He had two mandates (2012-2019) as Vice-Rector for Educational Activity and then was elected Rector of NSA (2019-2024). Since 2008 he has been a member of the Academic Council of NSA “Vassil Levski” and its chairman in the period 2019-2023. He has been a member of the Managing body of the Council of Rectors of the Republic of Bulgaria since 2021.   

Since 05.01.2024, he has been an Assistant Rector at NSA “Vassil Levski”.

Scientific and research activity

He is the author of more than 80 publications, a monograph, textbooks, and educational materials in the field of physical education and sport. Since 2017, he has been a member of the scientific board of the Journal of Applied Sports Sciences and the editorial staff of the scientific journals “Sport and Science” and the Annual Book of the National Sports Academy “Vassil Levski”.

He was the president of the III International Scientific Congress “Applied Sports Sciences” held on 2-3 December 2022. A member of the Scientific and Organizational Committee of the first two editions of the International Scientific Congress “Applied Sports Sciences” and the Balkan Scientific Congress “Physical Education, Sport, Health” (2019).

A member of the managing body of “Heritage BG” Centre of Excellence.

Expert public and volunteer activity

Since 2021, he has been a vice chairman of the Bulgarian Olympic Committee, a member of the Executive Bureau, the chairman of the Preparation Committee for the Olympic Games, and a member of the Olympic Solidarity Commission of BOC.

Vice chairman of the Bulgarian Red Cross in Sofia and a member of the National Assembly of the Bulgarian Red Cross since 2006. A member of the Bulgarian National Water Rescue Commission.

He is the chairman of the Organizational Committee for the Celebration of NSA's 80^th Anniversary. As Rector of the NSA, he was presented the Medal of Honor of the President of the Republic of Bulgaria on the occasion of the NSA's 80^th anniversary.

He has been awarded numerous honorary titles and degrees, such as the BRC gold medal for distinction, the BOC medal of honor for exceptional contribution to the development of sport and the Olympic movement in the Republic of Bulgaria, the BRC Water Safety and Survival Award for his contribution to the development of water rescue service in Bulgaria,  BRC honorary diploma for establishing the humane nature of the Red Cross to the benefit of society and the country, BRC honorary title of Excellence in performing active Red Cross activities, a medal “BRC Honored Figure” for being an active activist of long standing.
