Lora Christova won a gold medal at the World Summer Biathlon Championship in Otepää, Estonia. The third-year student at the National Sports Academy "Vasil Levski" became the champion in the super sprint discipline at 7.5 km for girls. Lora made only one mistake during the last of the four shooting rounds and finished first with a 25-second lead over Finland's Inka Hamalainen.
With a stunning run, Valentina Dimitrova – also a student at the NSA – made up for her five missed shots at the shooting range and placed fourth, just two seconds behind Norway's Ragda Fodstad, who won the bronze medal. Irina Georgieva also qualified and started in the finals of the discipline, where she made six shooting misses and finished in 29th place.
Christova and Dimitrova are athletes of SKB-NSA. Accompanying the two athletes at the world championship is Assoc. Prof. Mikhail Klechev, a biathlon lecturer in the "Snow Sports" department at the NSA and personal coach of Lora Christova.
At last year's World Summer Biathlon Championship, Lora Christova won three gold medals. She clinched titles consecutively in the super sprint, sprint, and pursuit events in Osrblie. The championship in Otepää continues until August 25.
