Published on 26 August 2024 The students at the National Sports Academy "Vasil Levski," Valentina Dimitrova and Laura Hristova, won a total of 3 titles and one silver medal in the girls' category at the World Summer Biathlon Championship in Otepaa (Estonia). Both are athletes of the SKB-NSA. Accompanying them at the world championship was Assoc. Prof. Mihail Klechorov, a biathlon lecturer in the "Snow Sports" department at the Sports Academy and Laura Hristova's personal coach. Hristova finished first in the super sprint discipline, where Dimitrova placed fourth. The roles then reversed, and in the sprint, Valentina Dimitrova claimed the gold, while Hristova finished in fourth place. The two biathletes completed the Bulgarian triumph in the pursuit event, with gold for Dimitrova and a second position for Hristova. Thus, all three titles from the world championship in the girls' category went to Bulgaria. The national teams for men, women, youths, and girls concluded their performance at the championship in Estonia with 3 gold and 1 silver medal, as well as two fourth places, one sixth, one eighth, and one ninth place. The World Championship was the last major test before the start of the new biathlon season, which begins on November 30 with the World Cup round in Kontiolahti (Finland). The pre-Olympic winter will determine the quotas for participation in the Winter Games in Milan/Cortina in 2026. |
