Published on 12 December 2024

Olympic and European champion Carlos Nasar triumphed at the World Weightlifting Championship in Bahrain in the 89 kg category, setting two world records – in the snatch and in the total. This made the student of the National Sports Academy "Vasil Levski" the first Bulgarian athlete to achieve such a unique feat by winning all three major titles in 2024.

The great champion set a record in the first lift when he snatched 183 kg, improving by one kilogram the previous record held by Colombian Yeison Lopez. This gave the Bulgarian a 10 kg lead over second-place Marin Robu (Moldova). In the snatch, Nasar made successful attempts at 170, 176, and 183 kg with great ease.

In the clean and jerk, the Bulgarian started with a successful lift of 210 kg, followed by 222 kg, and then missed 225 kg. Second place in the clean and jerk went to Ro Kwan Ryol (North Korea) with 218 kg.

Standings in the total: Nasar 405 kg, Ro Kwan 380 kg, Robu 379 kg.

Nasar also has another world title to his name – from the championship in Tashkent in 2021, but in the 81 kg category. This medal is the first for Bulgaria at the championship in Bahrain.
